Genero is presented at IFLA
torsdag 12. august 2010, kl. 02:15 av Øystein JakobsenIFLA holds the libraries annual world congress, which in 2010 is held in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is a huge event with more than 3.000 participants from all over the world where library lovers meet. The theme for this years conference is “Open access to knowledge”, a topic very relevant to FriBit.
The FriBit members Øystein Jakobsen and Pål Lykkja submitted a proposal for a paper, which was accepted by IFLA and is being presented on thursday 12.08 in the Audiovisual and Multimedia section. The paper with the title “Genero – a way out of the Copyright dilemma” was submitted in english, and has been translated to chinese, french and spanish.
It is extremely rewarding that the Genero project not only was awarded €18.000 in funding by the norwegian ministry of technology, but is now published by IFLA. We hope the libraries will be interested in the project and decide to actively participate. As we create a new internet of content, it is imperative that the public libraries assume a large role, and not leave this important position to non-profits and for-profit organizations.
